Music and Poetry from the Colombian Conflict

Alia Musica presents poetry, discussion, and music interweaved in the memory of the Colombian armed conflict.

Works of chamber music stemming from different aspects of the conflict, with a special appearance by professors John Beverley, Juan Fernando Velasquez, and Colombian poet Piedad Bonnet (winner of the National Poetry Prize 1994 and the Casa de las Américas award 2014, among others), whose poems are musicalized in Johan Hassler's work, La Cicatriz en el Espejo.

With a panel discussion with special guests, poet Piedad Bonnet, and literary and cultural critic John Beveley.

Presented in collaboration with City of Asylum, Colombia en Pittsburgh, and the Center for Latin American Studies, with special support from the Leveller Foundation and The Heinz Endowments.

Nicolás Aguía: La Bonanza del Olvido. Film, narration, and electronics, on conflict testimonies from Choco inhabitants collected by Luis Fernando Gómez.

Johan Hasler: La Cicatriz en el Espejo and two other songs on poems by Piedad Bonnet. Soprano, flute, accordin, percussion

Reading and panel discussion with poet Piedad Bonnet (Colombia) and professors Juan Fernando Velásquez (ethnomusicology, Colombia) and John Beverley (literary criticism, USA).
